
Doug Wilson is a designer, photographer, art director and university instructor that has a passion for letterpress. Born and raised in the Midwest, he has travel in his blood and has been fortunate to visit 26 countries on five continents. With a love of hand-painted signs and a Polaroid camera, he has documented over 600 examples of vernacular typography.
Doug has a BFA in Graphic Design and an Art History minor from Missouri State University. He also received a Type Design Workshop Certificate from the Basel School of Design and spent a summer as an artist in residence at L'Association pour le Patrimoine Industriel in Geneva, Switzerland.
He is proprietor of The Scarlet Letter Press - his private letterpress concern established in 2005. He prints mostly posters and broadsides using a Vandercook SP-20 Proof Press and antique wood type. He also works as a graphic designer at an advertising agency and teaches typography as an adjunct professor.
Doug currently lives in Springfield, Missouri with his wife and an ever-expanding collection of books. He also really likes dance parties.
